The resurgence of Modern Mambo began with this man...Eddie Torres, indisputably
noted as THE
MAMBO KING!
This documentary, by Cathy Calderon, touches on the emotion and passion
of Eddie Torres during that time when Tito Puente needed a big showing of choreographed dancers for a show at
the Apollo Theatre in Harlem, New York showcasing several tunes from his newest album of the time (circa 1987)
including the hit Machito Forever!
Those of you that attended my 2002 Mambo Conference and been to my 2umbao
2sdays at the Cock 'N Bull Pub in Santa Monica, CA remember me
playing my bootleg copy of this documentary over and over again. Many of you have asked me to sell you a copy but I've always
responded that I wanted to get with the producer (Cathy Calderon) to see if I could get a license to sell it.
Well, after a long discussion with Cathy and her husband, (my pal
and famed actor) Paul Calderon (one of the original Eddie Torres Dancers), during the 2005
New York Salsa Congress, she seemed to be very excited about the prospect of letting the mambo world take advantage
of owning a copy of this great piece.
Don't wait and get your copy now!
